We will start this blog by telling you what aeration actually means. Aeration is nothing but basically the process of absorbing oxygen from air. High amount of Oxygen is provided in the aeration tank as there is high BOD in the sewage. This cannot be naturally given, which is why aerators are used to provide Oxygen artificially. When the DO (dissolved oxygen) level goes down below 2mg/l, various anaerobic activities begin to take place.
The main types of aeration methods are:
Diffused air aeration — In this particular method, compressed air is blown across the sewage and air is diffused in sewage with the help of the diffuser. Diffusers are mainly 2 types (plate diffuser and tube diffuser).
Mechanical aeration — Here, the sewage surface violently agitated by using some mechanical tools and equipment to promote absorption of oxygen from the atmosphere. There are two main forms of mechanical aerator (Vertical surface aerator and Horizontal surface aerator). In this method, electrically driven propellers (also known as vanes) are mounted in either a fixed or a floating support system.
Combine aerator — This is an interesting aeration method as here, the two methods mentioned above are combined as a single unit. This combination is also known by the name Dorroco aerator. The combine aerator is more efficient than the other two methods and the quantity of compressed air required is also less than the others.
We hope you found this blog informative as well as useful. If you are interested in keeping your bait fish alive for a long time in your boat, consider investing in an aerator system for boats.
